Having the experience of teaching for more than just one day allowed me to immerse myself in the role, providing a deeper understanding of the ongoing responsibilities and challenges faced by teachers. This experience was invaluable, as it taught me the importance of preparation, adaptability, and the ability to manage a classroom independently.
During this time, I was able to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the daily expectations placed on teachers. It was not just about delivering lessons but also about managing classroom dynamics, understanding the unique needs of each student, and devising strategies to engage and inspire them. This extended period of teaching helped me transition from a mindset of simply covering material to fostering a genuine learning environment.
In Block 2, I felt significantly more prepared. With prior experience, I was able to anticipate potential challenges and plan accordingly. This preparation allowed me to navigate the complexities of the teaching profession with greater confidence and competence. I realized that being well-prepared is not just about planning lessons but also about understanding the curriculum, knowing the students, and being ready to adapt to unexpected situations. It involved a continuous learning process and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
One of the most significant challenges I encountered was teaching the Afrikaans classes. This task was daunting due to the language barrier and my initial unfamiliarity with the subject-specific terminology. Teaching subjects like Life Skills and Mathematics in Afrikaans added an extra layer of complexity, as I had to ensure that I was conveying the concepts accurately while also managing to pronounce the terms correctly. This challenge pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and engage in rigorous preparation.
To overcome these difficulties, I adopted a proactive approach. I spent time reviewing the terminology and practicing my pronunciation before each lesson. This preparation was crucial, as it helped me gain confidence and ensure that I was delivering the material effectively. Moreover, it taught me the importance of being resourceful and seeking help when needed, whether it was consulting with colleagues or utilizing available resources to enhance my understanding.
Reflecting on this journey, I feel ready to embrace the teaching profession. The experience has equipped me with the skills needed to address the diverse needs of students and create a supportive, inclusive classroom environment. It has also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the dedication and resilience required to be an effective teacher. As I prepare for my future teaching career, I am committed to continually refining my skills and staying attuned to the evolving educational landscape.

After reading your blog I can agree with you on the fact that during block two of teaching experience I felt more prepared as well and it does teach us how to adapt and prepare for lessons and show us what we are getting into next year . An inclusive classroom I believe is an important aspect and I see that you brought that into your classroom and in the South African context I think it is one of the most important aspects of a classroom and I’m so happy to see that you have added that into your classroom. Becoming a teacher I think it is important that that we are committed to continuous learning and I see that…
Your reflection is very effective as you were able to identify your challenges and become more prepared. Great use of reflective practices are being used that will help all educators in the future.
